Lesotho Overland – 2 Nights / 3 Days
Day 1: Maseru – TY – Leribe – Liphofung – Oxbow
All Meals – Own Cost
Pickup at Maseru Airport at 07h30. This tour takes us into the Leribe District via the small town of TY, home to several handicraft centers. After shopping in TY, we continue our journey to the site of Major Bell’s Tower in Leribe. The fortifications were built by the British at the end of the 1870s and were besieged, but not captured, during the Gun War of 1880.
The tower is still largely intact. Visitors can also see an interesting primitive statue of a European figure in front of a nearby local administrative office. Additional craft centers in the Leribe District will be visited, offering a wide variety of local products.
The tour then continues to a heritage site to view the dinosaur footprints. Thereafter, we depart for Oxbow via Liphofung, which translates to “Place of the Eland.” We will visit the Liphofung Caves en route before continuing our journey to Oxbow.
Overnight at Oxbow Lodge
Day 2: Oxbow – Sani Pass – Sani Top
Breakfast Included
Early in the morning, after breakfast, we board our vehicle and continue our journey toward Sani Pass, a challenging zigzag mountain road that was originally a bridle trail for pack animals and was opened to vehicle transport in the 1950s.
Sani Pass is the gateway to Lesotho’s “Roof of Africa” circuit, linking the spectacular scenery of the Drakensberg Mountains with the attractions of northern Lesotho. We will enjoy lunch at the famous Sani Mountain Lodge, home to the Highest Pub in Africa at 2,874 meters above sea level.
Overnight at Sani Top Chalets / Sani Mountain Lodge (2,874 meters above sea level)
