Lesotho Overland Excursion – 2 Nights / 3 Days

Day 1: Maseru City Orientation & Cultural Crafts

All meals at own cost

Pick up at Maseru Airport, followed by an orientation tour of Maseru.

We will visit Lesotho Cooperative Handicrafts, where you can view and purchase Basotho hats, baskets, grass products, clay items, and mohair products. We will also visit the Maseru Tapestries and Weavers in Maseru West, where handwoven tapestries, carpets, and scarves are produced.

Overnight: Botleng Guest House

Day 2: Morija Heritage, Matsieng & Mohale Dam

Breakfast.

Depart at 08h30 for Morija. Visit the Morija Museum, which houses collections of Bushman art, dinosaur footprints, books, clay pots, fossils, old tools used by various tribes, and historical exhibits.

The Moeder Craft Centre is located in the oldest building in Morija (built in 1843), where you may purchase tapestries, mohair shawls, and souvenirs.

Proceed via Matsieng to the King’s Palace. A local Basotho guide will accompany us to the viewpoint of the palace and provide explanations (depending on security clearance). No photographs are allowed, and entry inside the palace is not permitted.

Continue to Mohale Dam, a rock-fill dam in Lesotho and part of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, which will eventually include five large dams in remote rural areas of Lesotho and South Africa.

The project was initially identified by South African civil engineering firm Ninham Shand (now Aurecon) as a means to supplement South Africa’s water supply. The World Bank facilitated a treaty between the former Apartheid government of South Africa and the Kingdom of Lesotho, enabling the project to proceed.

If conditions permit, we will enjoy a boat cruise on the dam. Lunch at Mohale (excluding soft drinks; mineral water included).

After lunch, depart for Maseru. On the way, visit Thaba Bosiu. Arrival back at Botleng Guest House is approximately 16h00.

Overnight: Botleng Guest House

Day 3: Departure from Maseru

Breakfast.

Transfer from the lodge to Maseru Airport for departure.
