Day 1: Sani Pass Adventure & Basotho Cultural Experience
Lunch & Dinner
Departure at 09h00 from our office on the Main Road in Underberg. Travel to the World Heritage Site of the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park, with regular scenic stops along the way.
Follow the Mkomazana River up the picturesque Sani Valley to the South African Border Post (border formalities).
Continue ascending Sani Pass, built by David Alexander between 1948 and 1954, with views of Hodgson’s Peaks and the Giants Cup. Climb to an altitude of 2,874 m, zigzagging beneath towering cliffs and buttresses, past waterfalls, and through unique flora and birdlife.
After completing border formalities at the Lesotho Border Post, stop for refreshments at the “Highest Pub in Africa.” Thereafter, visit a local village to learn more about Basotho culture, including tasting traditional homemade bread and beer.
Ascend Black Mountain Pass (3,280 m), following the Senqu River. Nearby is Thabana Ntlenyana (3,482 m), the highest mountain in Southern Africa, meaning “the little mountain which is nice.” Packed lunch en route.
Enjoy a cultural Basotho dance performance and a traditional Sangoma experience.

Day 2: Mokhotlong Town Tour & Return to Underberg
Breakfast
After breakfast, depart for a town tour of Mokhotlong. Thereafter, travel back via St. James Mission and rejoin the same route taken on Day 1, returning to Underberg.
Arrival in Underberg is approximately 12h30.

General Information – Lesotho Overland Tours
Every guest on tour is entering a rural and unspoiled African environment. Therefore, it is necessary to travel with a flexible and tolerant mindset.
Accommodation, bathroom facilities, and meals are in most places basic, simple, and rustic.
Most lunch stops are based on packed lunches or picnic meals.
Toilet facilities along the route are very limited.
We reserve the right to alter any routes or itineraries should circumstances such as weather, road conditions, or unforeseen obstacles require it.
Some accommodations use generators for electricity (which switch off at 22h00) and gas geysers for hot water supply.
Please bring soft bags only; no large suitcases.
