This village is made up of a mixture of Basotho rondavels and colonial sandstone buildings. The present king, Letsie III, lives in his traditional home in this area. Although the Palace is a wonder to behold with its fine architecture and beautiful surroundings, it is unfortunately not open for public viewing.
On the 2nd of June 2007 Prince Lerotholi was baptised as David at the Roman Catholic St Louis Church in Matsieng. This ceremony was overseen by Archbishop Bernard Mohlalisi who is the head of the Roman Catholic Church in Lesotho.

Basotho people pride themselves with this place because it is where their king was raised and is currently living with his family of 5- 2 beautiful Princesses named Princess Senate and Princess Maseiso and a Handsome Prince named Lerotholi with their parents namely King Letsie III and Queen 'Masenate.
