The waterfall is surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery and offers a refreshing stop during the trek.

Day 4: Scenic Drive to Semonkong and Departure to Maseru

All Meals Included

After a hearty breakfast, depart for an exciting scenic journey across the Thaba Putswa Range via Makheka’s Pass toward Semonkong, also known as “The Place of Smoke.”

A viewpoint stop at 2,260 meters allows you to admire the spectacular scenery before reaching the summit of Makheka’s Pass at 2,860 meters, offering panoramic views of valleys and farmlands below.

The surrounding grasslands are dotted with yellow Euryops flowers, white Arum lilies, and the bright red and yellow colors of Red-Hot Pokers, along with many other wildflowers.

Enjoy a packed lunch along the route as the road becomes rugged before and after the summit.

In the afternoon, visit the spectacular Maletsunyane Falls, the longest single-drop waterfall in Southern Africa (204 meters). The falls can be visited by mountain bike, pony, or hiking, with a round-trip duration of approximately 3 hours.

After the visit, continue toward Maseru Airport.

On the way, travel along the tar road to Roma, climbing steadily to the top of Nkesi’s Pass (2,010 meters), where you can enjoy superb views of the 3,096-meter Thaba Putswa Range.

Just before reaching Roma, the road descends through spectacular white sandstone rock formations and valleys. Nearby lies Thaba Telle Mountain (2,530 meters), a popular but challenging climb for mountaineers.

Roma is the principal center of the Roman Catholic Church in Lesotho and has been home to the National University of Lesotho since 1964. The town was founded in 1862, when King Moshoeshoe I granted the land to Bishop Allard and Father Gerard.
