Maletsunyane Falls Tour Abseiling

Country: Lesotho
City: Maseru
Duration: 3 Day(s) - 2 Night(s)
Tour Category: Abseiling

Package Itinerary

The Maletsunyane Abseil is the longest commercially operated single-drop abseil in the world, Lesotho.

We are exceptionally proud of our Guinness World Record Certificate, which we received in October 2005. The certificate reads: ‘The longest commercially operated single-drop abseil is one of 204m (670 ft) down the Maletsunyane waterfall at Semonkong Lodge, Semonkong, Lesotho.’

Set on the edge of the spectacular Maletsunyane Falls, this abseil descends 204m non–stop to the bottom of the gorge were few people dare to tread. As you stand on the edge of the falls you are exposed to all the elements of the gorge & Mother Nature herself. The abseil itself is an extremely exposed straight drop where at times you are suspended in mid-air with the spray of the waterfall upon you & the birds of the cliffs flying around you. This is abseiling at its best and most exciting. The abseiling includes a half-day of training in and around the Lodge, on much more subdued cliffs of only 25 m. Here our qualified guides help you to get familiar with the equipment and the techniques used on this extreme abseil. The following morning, while the air is still fresh, you take a 4X4 drive out to the abseil site where the real fun begins. This is not for the faint-hearted.

Day 1:

After breakfast, we travel through the rugged roads of Lesotho while taking scenery photos along the way as we head to Semonkong, known as “A place of Smoke”. Semonkong is a home of Maletsunyane Falls, the highest single drop waterfall in the whole of Southern Africa at 204m.

We are going to arrive at Semonkong at mid- afternoon, where a group will be have a relaxed afternoon after a long road trip. Local entertainment can be arranged such as a local choir. Overnight at Semonkong lodge.

Day 2:

After breakfast, the group will hike to smaller cliffs for abseiling training for the next day. Later on, we will embark on a variety of outdoor activities such as touring the village/ then a relaxed afternoon at the lodge.

Day 3:

After a hearty warm breakfast, we head to Maletsunyane Falls for a special adventure experience. This is not for the faint hearted. Maletsunyane falls is 204 m long single drop waterfall with 204m abseiling which leads to the bottom of the waterfall. People have an option of abseiling at the smaller cliffs around the lodge.

After lunch, we get on the vehicle and hit the road to Maseru for overnight.
